Today’s design is for Redadie, an amazing Olioboard member, who is in the process of redesigning her kitchen. She enjoys contemporary and modern designs with a mix of traditional touches and plans on keeping accents of red in her new kitchen design.
The entire west wall of the kitchen is all window and has a large open space for eating and relaxing. With that in mind, I designed a space to include a full length window seat to enjoy the view outside. A window seat is a great way to introduce loads of fun fabrics, patterns and colour to a kitchen. In front of that full length window seat I picture a long reclaimed wooden table that sits eight to ten comfortably and for seating on the opposite side of the table, I envision Hans Wegner’s, Wishbone chairs in a red finish.
When it comes to kitchens, I’ve always preferred light coloured cabinets over darker tones. For me, kitchens should be bright and welcoming. I also like the idea of having glass upper cabinets to display your favourite ceramics and dishes. Open shelving is also a great way to display your favourite pieces and practical for easy access to the more frequently used items.
I finished off the design by adding some warm natural tones, yellows and accents in red. One thing that I think would be a great addition to this design is a space for a blackboard. I saw this door on an olioboard that Redadie had made and think it would work really well in this design.
I’d love to hear what you think of this red and white kitchen or, better yet, if you feel you have a great design to offer, head over to Olioboard and add your vision of Redadie’s kitchen to the challenge.
